The saying 'black is beautiful' has been used more now than ever before since Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o came on the scene. But have you noticed that dark skinned Nollywood males seem to be linked with lighter skinned females? The couples who fall into this category are Peter (of P-Square) and Lola Okoye, Jim Iyke and Nadia Buari, and Chris Attoh and Damilola Adegbite. Though their relationship is most likely built on love, its almost undeniable to not notice the contrast in skin tone; especially with it being so obvious.

Nigerians Peter and Lola held their traditional marriage ceremony late last year. They have been together for a long time and have two children. Peter is known from the popular Afro-pop duo P-Square along with his twin brother Paul.

Jim Iyke and Nadia Buari are both African movie actors. He is Nigerian while she is Ghanaian and are not shy in any way displaying their affection for each other. They've been spotted at several events and often take to twitter to share their TLC.

Ghanaian hunk Chris Attoh recently took to social media to express his thanks to fans for their well wishes following his engagement to fiance Damilola Adegbite. Both are actors; Chris in movies while Damilola is best known for her work in popular soap 'Tinsel'.

A lot of people in Africa do seem to equate beauty to lighter skin tones. Its no wonder many young ladies resort to lightening their skin tones by 'bleaching' all in an effort to be prettier by being lighter. It is quite an epidemic; so much so that Whitenicious cream by Dencia has crossed the million dollar mark in sales. What some young ladies have failed to realize is that the women in the relationships we just described and who they are trying to look like, are actully of mixed race (one parent is caucasian and the other black).

The desire for fair skin took a new low when people on twitter called Lupita Nyong'o 'ugly' just because she looks dark. The actress even shared during an appearance at an Essence Magazine event that at a young age, she desired lighter skin until she saw supermodel Alek Wek's beauty being embraced.

The obsession with light skin tones is not just in Africa. India is equally obsessed! It was reported that Miss America Nina Davuluri was not fair enough. Check out this video:
