Wale & Wizkid Collabo!

By on July 28, 2013

Wale and Wizkid are currently at the top of their game. So when afro hip-hop sensation, Wizkid revealed recently that he would be featuring Wale, an  American rapper of Nigerian origin, on his Starboy mixtape, we knew to expect northing but a hit. Well, it appears that the collaboration is well on its way as Wizkid shared this picture with 'big bro' Wale on his instagram page. There is however, no word yet on a release date for the mixtape.

This type of collaboration is a trend we continue to see with Nigerian musicians. They seem to have this desire or better put, they aspire to collaborate with their American counterparts. We've seen it happen with P-Square and D'Banj. Though afro hip hop has come to its own and can solidly stand as a respected genre of music, collaborations with Americans seem to give Nigerian artists that stamp of approval or achievement.

Maybe the Wale/Wizkid collabo is a bit different from the rest because Wale is of Nigerian descent. He was born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin in Washington DC in 1984. His parents of Yoruba origin, moved to the States from Austria in 1979. Wale actually dropped out of college due to academic reasons but has gone on to be a well respected rapper. He is signed on Rick Ross' label and has dropped mega hits which have bagged him a number of awards including a Grammy, BET and Soul Train Awards.

Wale even shared this below on his twitter page not too long ago! Too funny! It appears the duo went out and Wizkid called someone 'Oloshi'!

We look forward to the finished product from this collabo!
